No longer a myth…

Thursday, September 8th, 2005

My latest fun project was setting up MythTV which is a really neat system for managing all your media right on your television. Basically, a TiVO on performance enhancing something-or-others. Allows me to watch, pause, rewind, and record Live TV through a tuner card in the computer. It also features a very easy-to-use scheduler for recording shows you like and it handles all your pictures, music, arcade games, weather, news, etc. It’s pretty swank. I hope to add multiple tuner cards so I can record 2 or more shows at once. We’ll have this moved into our swanky living-room soon so we can actually watch it on the TV. Right now it’s just on the computer cause I’m testing and have been for the last day or two. It’s fun.

For the curious, I installed Redhat Linux Fedora Core 4 to one of four 120 gigabyte hard-drives, so I’ll have at least 450 hours of video storage and that’s before any sort of tight compression. If you’re ever around my place, ask for a demo—it’s cool. ;)
